3. Type your password and click the trackwheel.
To change your password
You can provide greater security by occasionally changing your password.
1. On the Home screen, click the Options icon. The Options screen appears.
2. Click Security. The security screen appears.
3. Click the trackwheel to view the menu and then click Change Password. A
dialog box appears that prompts you to type your current password.
4. Type your current password, and then click the trackwheel.
5. Type a new password that contains at least four characters, and then click the
trackwheel.
6. Type your new password again to verify it, and then click the trackwheel.
7. Click the trackwheel to view the menu. Click Save.
The Options screen appears and your password is changed.
To disable password protection
If you disable your password, the Lock screen no longer appears after the
specified amount of idle time. You do not need to type your password to open the
Security screen or to connect your handheld to your desktop.
Note: If you receive a phone call while your handheld is locked, you can answer the phone
call. You can also unlock the handheld while connected to the call. Refer to "Answering
phone calls when the handheld is locked" on page 139 for more information.
Warning: If you type your password incorrectly five times, you are prompted to type
blackberry before you can continue. For subsequent password attempts, the characters
that you type are displayed in the Enter Password dialog box.
If your password is typed incorrectly eight times, you are prompted to type blackberry
again before you can continue.
If your password is typed incorrectly ten times, all information is erased from your
handheld for security reasons. You should regularly back up any information from your
handheld that might not have originated on your desktop. Refer to the Backup and
Restore Online Help for more information.
Note: If you disable password protection, you can continue to use the keyboard lock
feature to lock your handheld against accidental input. Refer to "Locking the keyboard"
on page 237 for more information on the keyboard lock feature.
