just got the Apple 32GB yesterday,.but lost instru...

just got the Apple 32GB yesterday,.but lost instructions on what I need to make it operational..I know a Sim card, Charge it, but do I need to got to At&T and have them as my provider? or go anywhere? and can I use my computer as my provider..????my first iphone
