5 The phone isn't actually locked. However, most carriers have a device database for CDMA phones that govern which phones are able to be activated on their network. If this is a GSM phone, then you would be able to acquire an unlock code that is associated with the IMEI by contacting technical support of your carrier. Normally, you can convince someone to unlock the phone by telling them you want to use it internationally for temporary travel.
