Is the screen malfunctions (screen freeze, flicker...

Is the screen malfunctions (screen freeze, flickers, keyboard lock-up, etc.) a hardware, software, or both on my 2nd returned phone or should I see if flashing the phone might help. I really don't want to buy a new phone, it's as a hassel of buying a new car. Any solutions or simple answer would be appreciated. (sheilasho@gmail.com)
