While you have connected to the instant messaging service, you can use the other
functions of the phone, and the instant messaging session remains active in the
background. Depending on the network, the active instant messaging session may
consume the phone battery faster, and you may need to connect the phone to a
charger.
Entering the instant messaging menu
To enter the Instant messages menu while still offline, press Menu, and select
Messages and Instant messages.
To connect to the instant messaging service, select Login. You can set the
phone to automatically connect to the instant messaging service when you
enter the Instant messages menu. See Connecting to and disconnecting from
the instant messaging service on page 62.
To view, erase, or rename the conversations that you have saved during an
instant messaging session, select Saved convers.. You can select Saved convers.
also when you have connected to the instant messaging service.
To view the settings needed for instant messaging and presence settings,
select Connect. settings.
You may receive the settings as a configuration message, see Configuration
settings service on page 18. To key in the settings manually, see Configuration
settings on page 99.
Select Configuration and Default or Personal config. according to which
configuration settings supports instant messaging.
