EMS (Enhanced Message Service)
Network service sending and receiving messages
that include images, sounds and/or animations to
and from another user without having to speak to
the correspondent.
GPRS (General Packet Radio Service)
New non-voice value-added service that allows
information to be sent and received across a mobile
telephone network. GPRS guarantees continuous
connection to the Internet for mobile phone and
computer users. It is based on the Global System
for Mobile Communication (GSM) circuit-switched
cellular phone connections and the Short Message
Service (SMS).
GSM (Global System for Mobile
communication)
International standard for cellular communication,
guaranteeing compatibility between the various
network operators. GSM covers most European
countries and many other parts of the world.
MMS (Multimedia Message Service)
A message service for the mobile environment,
standardized by the WAP Forum and the 3rd
Generation Partnership Program (3GPP). For phone
users, MMS is similar to Short Message Service
(SMS)--it provides automatic, immediate delivery of
user-created content from phone to phone. The
message addressing used is primarily phone
numbers; thus the traffic goes from phone to
