Changing the Text Entry Mode
In any text entry screen or field, the current text entry mode (T9 Word, Abc, ABC,

mode:
Press the
Left
soft key to scroll through available text entry modes.
T9 Word
— Press each phone key only once to enter the letter of the word that you’re
spelling. The phone recognizes common words from the keys pressed.
Abc
— Enter letters, numbers, and symbols by using the QWERTY keypad or by repeatedly
pressing each phone key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the
display. The first character of each word is upper case.
ABC
— Enter letters, numbers, and symbols by using the QWERTY keypad or by repeatedly
pressing each phone key until the desired character (as shown on the key) appears in the
display. All characters are upper case.
123
— Enter numbers by pressing the corresponding keys on the phone keypad or the
QWERTY keypad.
Tip:
Using the QWERTY keypad, you can also use
123
mode to enter symbols into your message by
pressing the keys labeled with the symbols.
Symbols
— Using the phone keypad, enter a symbol into your message by pressing the
number next to the symbol in the
Symbols
pop-up window.
Using T9
®
Mode
T9 Word recognizes commonly used words matching the numeric sequence of key
presses and inserts the word into your message. Text entry using T9 Word is much
faster than the traditional method (Abc) and requires only one key press per letter of
the word.
Note:
T9Word can only be used when the phone is in closed/portrait mode.
