Device)isanon-boardairtrafcdisplayusedto
identifypotentialcollisionthreats.TCADcomputes
relativealtitudeandrangeofthreatsfromnearby
ModeCandModeS-equippedaircraft.TCADwillnot
detectaircraftwithoutoperatingtranspondersorthose
thatarebeyondradarcoverage.TCAD,withindened
limits,createsa“shield”ofairspacearoundtheaircraft
thatdetectedtrafccannotpenetratewithouttrigger-
inganalert.
Operator Controls and Basic Displays
Ifthereisnocommunicationbetweenthe
400W/500WSeriesunitdisplayandtheTCADunit,a
messagewillappear,notifyingtheuser.Afterinitial-
ization,proceedwithoperationofthe400W/500W
Seriesunitinanormalmanner.TCADdatacanbe
shownina“thumbnail”viewontheMapPage.
The Map Page can display TCAD traffic in any
of the top three fields (or top four fields on a
500W Series unit) located on the right-hand
side of the display.
TCADdataalsodisplaysontheTrafcPageand
MapPages,ifheadingdataisavailable.Thesymbols
forclosingandopeningtrafcshownonboththeMap
PageandtheTrafcPageareidenticaltothoseshown
ontheRyanTCAD:
