@Incorrectsortingofclothes.Separatelint-producers(suchasterry towelsandchenille)
fromlint-receivers(suchasman-madefabrics,velveteen,corduroy).
@Washingtoolong,especiallyfor smallerloads.Fornormalsoil, washoneminuteper
poundofdry clothes.
@Use ofnon-phosphatedetergentswhichcombinewithhardnessmineralstoforma
precipitatewhichcan be mistakenfor lint. Useaphosphateor liquiddetergent;use
warmer washwateror softenwater withan installedmechanicalsofteneror apackaged
watersoftener.
~Powderyresiduefromgranular detergentmayappearto belint. Predissolvegranular
detergentin hotwaterbeforeaddingto washer;makesuredetergentiscornplete~y
dissolvedbeforeaddingclothes;switchto liquidor cold waterdetergentor usewarmer
washwater.Seepage 13.
@Overloadingwillcauseabrasionwhich createsexcessivelint. Washfeweritemswith
correct waterlevel.
~Toomuch bleach. Use correct amountofbleach accordingtopackagedirections.
~Notenoughdetergenttoholdlint in suspensionduringwashcycle.Increase amountof
detergent. See page 13.
@Incorrect useoffabric softener.If used inwashcycle,softenersmay reactwith
detergenttocreate a whitedeposit. Use softenersin rinse cycleonly unlesspackage
specifiesaddingto washcycle.Seepage 15.
~Pillingusually on polyester-cottonb~endsis causedby normal.wearandmay looklike
lint. Turningclothesinside-outmayprovidesomehelp.
@Staticelectricityy caused byoverdryingwillcause attraction. Usefabric softenerin
rinsecycle.
Theseare sometimescalled “InvisibleStains” becauseyoumay notnoticethem before
washingclothes. However, ifoily soilsare notcompletelyremovedin washcycle,the
oilyspotsmay pick up dirt fromthe washwater.The spotswillthen be very visible. They
ire ~~otcaused bythe washer.Washsyntheticgarments as soon aspossibleafter wearing.
Jse more detergentthan normal and hottest waterfabric can stand. If spotsappear, rub in
undilutedliquid detergent, letstand30 minutesand rewashwith extradetergentusing
lottest water fabric can stand.
