Replacing the Grass Deector
Service Interval: Before each use or daily—Inspect the
grass deector for damage
An uncovered discharge opening could allow
the lawn cutter deck to throw objects in the
operator’s or bystander’s direction and result
in serious injury. Also, contact with the blade
could occur.
Never operate the machine without grass
deector, discharge cover or grass collection
system in place.
Inspect the grass deector for damage before each use.
Replace any damaged parts before use.
1. Locate items shown in Figure 57.

4. Replace the grass deector (Figure 57).
5. Slide rod, straight end, through the rear grass
deector bracket.
6. Place the spring on the rod, with end wires down,

7. Insert rod at front of grass deector into short
stand-off on deck. Secure rear end of rod into the
cutter deck with a nut (3/8 inch) (Figure 57).
Important: The grass deector must be spring
loaded in the down position. Lift the deector
up to test that it snaps to the full down position.
