Chapter 5 Licensing VirtualCenter and ESX Server
Adding New License Files to License Servers
Thelicenseserversupportsalicensedirectoryformultiplelicensefiles.Ifyouobtained
multiplelicensefiles(for example,fromseparateorders)andwanttomanageallthese
licensesfromthesamelicenseserver,addthemtothelicenseserverdirectoryand
restarttheserver.
To add new licenses to the license server directory
1Addthenewlicensefiletothe
followingdefaultdirectoryonthemachinerunning
theVMwarelicenseserver:
C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware License Server\Licenses
2RestarttheVMwareLicenseServerservice.
ThefollowingsequenceisforWindows2000Professional.Themenusandcommands
forotherversionsofWindowscanvary.
To restart the license server Windows Service
1 ChooseStart>Settings>ControlPanel.
2Double‐clickAdministrativeTools.
3Double‐clickServices.
4Scrollandright‐clickVMwareLicenseServer .
5 ChooseRestartfromthepop‐
upmenu.
Youcanchangethedefaultlocationofyourcentralizeddirectory,oryourlicensefile.
To change the default location of the license directory
1Onthecomputerthatrunsthelicenseserverapplication,launchVMwareLicense
ServerToolsbychoosingStart>Programs>VMware>VMwareLicenseServer>
VMwareLicenseServerTools.
2ClicktheConfigServicestab.
3Click
BrowsenexttothePathtolicensefilefield,andchoosealicensefilefrom
thelicensedirectory.
Ifyouwantthelicenseservertousetheentirelicensedirectory,manuallyremove
thenameofthefileleavingonlythenameofthedirectory.
4ClicktheStart/Stop/Rereadtab.
5ClickStop.
