Controls
● Turn the steering wheel fully to port and
starboard. Check that operation is smooth
and unrestricted throughout the whole
range with no binding or excessive free
play.
● Operate the remote control lever several
times to check that there is no hesitation in
its travel. Operation should be smooth over
the complete range of motion.
● Inspect the throttle and shift cable connec-
tions for damage and looseness.

Engine shut-off cord (lanyard)
Check the engine shut-off cord and clip for
damage, such as cuts, breaks, and wear.

Engine oil
1. Place the outboard motor in a vertical po-
sition (not tilted). NOTICE: If the out-
board motor is not level, the oil level
indicated on the oil dipstick may not
be accurate.

2. Remove the oil dipstick and wipe it clean.
3. Insert the oil dipstick completely and re-
move it again.
4. Check that the oil level on the oil dipstick
is between the upper and lower marks.
Consult your Yamaha dealer if the oil lev-
el is not at the proper level or if it appears
milky or dirty.
