Troubleshooting
Toner may be low or unevenly distributed.
• Redistribute the toner inside the toner cartridge ( p. 126). If the problem
persists, replace the toner cartridge ( p. 126).
■ Cannot receive using Error Correction Mode (ECM).
The other party’s fax machine may not support ECM.
• If this is the case, the document is received without ECM.
ECM may be disabled.
• Make sure ECM on your FAX is enabled (
ECM RX
, p. 147).
• Contact the other party to check if ECM on their fax machine is enabled.
■ Errors occur frequently while receiving.
The telephone lines may be in poor condition, or you may have a bad
connection.
• Lower the reception speed (
RX START SPEED
, p. 1411).
The other party’s fax machine may not be functioning properly.
• Contact the other party and have them check that their fax machine is
functioning properly.
Copying Problems
■ Cannot make copies.
The document may not be loaded correctly.
• Make sure the document is loaded correctly in the ADF ( p. 43).
• Make sure the operation panel is closed.
The document may not meet the requirements for the FAX.
• Make sure you load documents that meet the requirements for the FAX
( p. 42).
■ MEMORY FULL appears in the LCD when making
multiple copies.
The FAX’s memory is full.
• Print, send, or delete any documents stored in memory ( p. 94) to free up
space in the FAX’s memory, then start again.
The document you are copying may have too many graphics.
• If multiple pages are being copied, separate the pages into smaller stacks. If
not, make the desired number of copies one at a time as needed.
