Using the closed caption decoder
Many broadcasters now supply closed captioning information along
with their regular broadcasts. Your TV can decode that information
and display it on your TV screen.
There are two types of captioning that broadcasters can send:
"standard" and "text." Standard captioning iLsrelated to the pro-
gram that is being shown. Standard captioning usually fi)llows the
dialogue of the characters on-.screen.
Text captioning does not usually relate to the program being
shown. It often contains information such a,_ weather or l_ews. Text
captioning often blocks out the program you are watching.
Your TV can decode four different "standard[ captioning" signals
and four different "text captioning" signals on each TV channel.
However, each station may be broadcasting only one or two
captioning signals, or none at all.
