The second line, just below the line indicating how to return to the “Main Menu,” contains the
program number. Remember that this number only defines the sources and conditions that you
attach to it in the following steps. It DOES NOT refer to any specific input connection on the 5.0’s
rear panel.
Before proceeding it is a good idea to have a chart of which input sources are connected to each
of the rear panel inputs. This will speed the installation process. A worksheet for this purpose is
contained in Appendix B. It is also a good idea to review the factory default settings, as they may
provide a starting point from which to model your system.
To select a program to customize, press the

edit. When the Program Profile number appears, press the

This option permits you to change the name associated with this profile to a name that describes the
input source. This name will appear whenever the Program Profile is selected in both the front panel
and on screen displays. Use any name that best suits your system requirements, such as “VCR-1,”
“Cable Box” or any other descriptive phrase that helps you to remember which combination of audio
and video equipment is connected to this Program Profile.
To change the program’s name, press the

to any upper- or lower-case letter, the numerals 0–9 or a variety of symbols. The

Up to ten characters may be entered, although all spaces need not be used. When you have entered
the Program Profile name, press the

At the Audio Input line you may associate any of the analog or digital audio inputs with the
Profile. Press the

Menu Control buttons to scroll through the list of input numbers. Note
that inputs 1 through 6 are prefixed “A,” as they are analog inputs. Inputs 7 through 10 are coaxial
(electrical) digital, while 11 and 12 are optical digital inputs; all are prefixed “D”. Unlike the Program
Profile numbers, these numbers DO correspond directly to the rear input connection numbers. In
addition, as you scroll through the inputs you will hear the source through the system to verify that
you have selected the proper input.
After selecting the audio input to be associated with this program, the choices on the balance of the
menu will change. One set of menu choices (Figure OSD-8 on page 37) appears when an analog
input, which are inputs A1 through A6, is selected, while a different set of choices (Figure OSD-9
on page 39) appears when one of the digital inputs, which are D7 through D12, are selected.
For the analog inputs, press the

Menu Control button so that Input Level is highlighted.
This is best done with the source in the Play mode with a representative program playing. While the
source is playing, press the

Menu Control buttons so that the front panel input level indica-
tors show a constant indication between the +0and +3marks. This is done to compensate for audio
sources which have either low or high outputs, to ensure that the surround-sound decoding circuits in
the 5.0 have the proper amount of signal to work with. It also ensures that as various audio sources are
selected, their levels are approximately equal.
