SAS Backplane (Service-Only Procedure)
Removing the SAS Backplane
WARNING: Only trained service technicians are authorized to remove the system
cover and access any of the components inside the system. Before you begin this
procedure, review the safety instructions that came with the system.

Turn off the system and attached peripherals, and disconnect the system
from the electrical outlet and peripherals.

Remove the Front Bezel. See "Removing the Front Bezel" on page 84.

Rotate the system feet inward and lay the system on a flat surface.

Open the system. See "Opening the System" on page 85.

Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on
page 87.

Remove all the hard drives. See "Removing a Hot-Swap Hard Drive" on
page 90.

Disconnect all the cables connected to the SAS backplane (see
Figure 3-29):
• SAS A cable
• SAS B cable (available only with 3.5-inch SAS backplane)
• hard drive activity indicator cable
• backplane power cable

Disconnect all the cables that are routed over the notch in the SAS
backplane board.

To remove the SAS backplane:
a
Pull the blue release pin and slide the backplane upwards.
b
Pull the backplane away from the front of the system until the
securing slots are free from the tabs on the chassis.
