MESSAGES (Menu 2)
As well as making and receiving voice and data calls, the
phone can also be used for recording and listening to mes-
sages in voice mailboxes and for sending and receiving short
text messages (’SMS messages’).
Voice Messages
The voice mailbox feature may be either regarded as a net-
work setvice or simply as a remote control for your personal
answering machine. The use of a voice mailbox is simple:
You make a call to the mailbox and listen to the messages
you have received. The submenus specific to voice mes-
sages are Menu 2 1 (Listen to Voice Messages) and Menu
2 4 5 (Set Voice Mailbox Number).
SMS Messages
The SMS (short message service) function is a network serv-
ice and may not be supported by your network.
Before you can use this function, you must have the phone
number of your message service centre available. Contact
your network operator for details.
When you send an SMS message from your phone, the net-
work’s message centre tries to deliver the message to the re-
ceiving phone. If the recipient cannot be reached, the
message is temporarily stored, for a pre-determined period
of time, in the message centre and delivered to the recipient
as soon as the receiving phone is available.
You may also ask the message centre to convert an ordinary
SMS message into some other format such as fax or Email.
When your phone receives an SMS message, the message is
stored in the area reserved for SMS messages in the phone
or SIM card memory, depending on which one is currently
selected.
