Printer Diagnostics
Self tests give informa tion about the con dition of the prin ter. The most commonly used are the
Power-On and the CANCEL self tests.
Power-On Self Test
A full Power-On Self Test (POST) is performed automatically each time the printer is turned
on (additional self tests can be performed by pressing CANCEL when you turn the printer on).
During either test sequ ence, t he front pane l lights an d LCD monito r the prog ress of the POST.
If the printer fails any of these tests, the word
FAILED
shows on the LCD. If this occurs,
notify an authorized Zebra reseller.
Additional Printer Self Tests
These self tests prod uce sample prin touts and pr ovide specific i nformation that help determine
the operating conditions for the printer.
Each self test is enabled by pressing a specific front panel key or combination of keys while
turning the POWER on (l). Keep the key(s) depressed until the DATA light turns off. When the
POST is complete, the selected self test starts automatically.
Caution • Be sure that the print width is set to match the label width you are using before
running any self tests. If the labels are not wide enough, the test ma y print on the platen
roller and damage it.
Note • When performing self test s, d o no t se nd a label format to th e printer. For remote hosts,
disconnect all data interface ca bles from the print er. For printers i n Peel-Of f Mode, re move the
labels as they come out of the printer.
When cancellin g a self test prior to its actual co mpletion, always turn the printer power o ff a nd
then back on to reset the print er.
If your media is not wide enough or long enough, unexpected or undesired results may occur.
Make sure that your print width is set correctly for the media you are using before you run any
self tests, otherwise the test may print out on the platen roller. See PRINT WIDTH on page 47
for information on setting the print width.
