78 Synchronizing Your phone With a Computer
3. In the Setup window, click the Local tab. In the Serial Port field, select the
port where you connected the cable. Click OK.
4. Connect the phone to the cable or place it in the sync cradle.
Note: Do not remove the phone from the cable during synchronization. Do not
turn the phone on or off during synchronization.
5. Tap the sync button on the phone screen. During your first synchronization,
a message asks for your user name.
6. On the computer, enter a user name. Click OK.
Note: Every Palm device must have a unique name. Problems may occur if you
synchronize more than one device with the same name. You may
synchronize your new phone to an existing user name from a previous
Palm-compatible device. However, You must remove the
Saved_Preferences file as described in the note at the beginning of
this section.
