PPPoE(Point‐to‐PointProtocoloverEthernet)allowsapoint‐

Ethernet.Justlikethedialupprotocolonwhichitisbased,
PPPoEusestraditionalusernameandpasswordauthenti
‐
cationtoestablishadirectconnectionbetweentwoEthernet
devicesonanetwork(suchasyourPinPointXandyour
computerorrouter).
ApplicationexamplesforPPPoEwithyourPinPointX:
• Backupconnectivitysolutionforyournetwork.
• IndividualizedInternetconnectiononaLAN.
• PasswordrestrictedInternetconnection.
Onlyonecomputer,router,orothernetworkdeviceatatime
canconnecttothePinPointXusingPPPoE.Ifyouareusingthe
PinPointXconnectedtoarouterasabackupInternet
connectionforyournetwork,youshouldconfiguretherouter
tousethePPPoEconnection andnotthe
individualcomputers.
Tip: You may need to use Private Mode to configure the IP address
of your PinPoint X to be available on a LAN.
Note: To configure a PPPoE connection on Microsoft Windows XP,
2000 or NT, you will need administrator privileges to the computer you
are configuring or access granted by an administrator on the network
to add/remove devices to your computer.
