Installating the SIM
TheSIMinthePinPointXisasmartcardsecurelystoringthe
keyidentifyingacellularsubscriber. Generally,youwillonly
needtoinstallaSIMonceinthelifeofthemodemanditmay
bepre‐installedbyyourSierraWirelessRepresentative.
1. Before you start
IftheSIMwaspre‐installed,unlessyouneedtosetacustom
APN,activationofyourmodemiscomplete.
Cellular Account Required
• Cellularaccount‐Touse yourmodemyouneedtohavea
SIM(Subscriber IdentityModule)withanactiveaccount
withanHSDPAcellularprovider(suchasAT&T).
Software Required
• AceManager‐GraphicalinterfaceforenteringmostAT
Commands.Youcan downloadAceManagerfromthe
SierraWirelessAirLinkSolutionswebsite:http://
www.airlink.com/support/.Adefaultinstallationofthis
utilityisassumedlaterinthesedirections
Hardware Required
• Ethernetcableorserialcable‐AnEthernetcableor
straightthroughserialcable.
Note: Until you install a driver for the USB port, you cannot use your
USB port to configure the modem.
• Poweradapterandapowersource‐Youwillneeda
powersupplyandpowersourceforthemodem.
• PCorLaptop‐Toconfigurethemodem,youwillneeda
computerwithanavailableEthernetportorserialport.
