2 Application Enhancement Solutions Messages Manual
Alert Category Messages
Alert Category Messages
In addition to sending messages to the MVS operator’s console and the job log data
set, some AES products also send messages to specified user IDs that are identified
with the Alert User ID option. If you are using a product that supports this option and
you do not specify a value for the option, messages will not be sent to the alert user
ID.
When a message is sent to the alert user ID, it has the concatenation of
jobname.stepname.date.time appended to the message. This concatenation identifies
the source of the message.
Note: If you are running under TSO version 1.4 or later, AES might not be able to
send messages to a user ID that is not active on the system on which an
AES product is running.
If you do not provide a value for the Alert User ID option, the AES product will not
send messages to a TSO user ID. However, it still writes the Alert category messages
to the job log data set along with the other generated messages.
The Alert category messages are set apart from the text with this notation:
Alert! This is an alert category message.
Viewing Messages through the ISPF Interface
You can view the AES product messages online through the ISPF interface if you
have installed an AES product. An outline for this task follows:
1. On the Application Enhancement Series primary menu, select option 12
(Messages) and press Enter.
2. On the AES Message Display panel, type the number of the message you would
like to review, such as 44205 or 74411. (Do not include the BMC prefix.) Press
Enter.
The panel returns an explanation of the message. In some cases, the panel may
return a message such as “MESSAGE NOT FOUND,” which probably means
the number you entered is not currently being used for an AES message.
