a rating system for wireless phones, to assist

phoneshavebeenrated.Phonesthatarerated
havetheratingontheirboxoralabellocated
on the box.
Theratingsarenotguarantees.Resultswill
varydependingontheuser’shearingdevice
andhearingloss.Ifyourhearingdevice
happenstobevulnerabletointerference,
you may not be able to use a rated phone
successfully. Trying out the phone with your
hearingdeviceisthebestwaytoevaluateitfor
your personal needs.

The hearing aid and wireless phone rating
valuesarethenaddedtogether.Asumof5is
considered acceptable for normal use. A sum of
6isconsideredforbestuse.
Intheaboveexample,ifahearingaidmeets
theM2levelratingandthewirelessphone
meetstheM3levelrating,thesumofthe
twovaluesequalM5.Thisissynonymousfor
Tratings.Thisshouldprovidethehearingaid
userwith“normalusage”whileusingtheir
hearing aid with the particular wireless phone.
“Normalusage”inthiscontextisdenedas
asignalqualitythatisacceptablefornormal
operation.
TheMmarkisintendedtobesynonymous
with the U mark. The T mark is intended to
besynonymouswiththeUTmark.TheMand
T marks are recommended by the Alliance
for Telecommunications Industries Solutions
(ATIS). The U and UT marks are referenced in
Section20.19oftheFCCRules.TheHACrating
and measurement procedure are described
in the American National Standards Institute
(ANSI)C63.19standard.
ToensurethattheHearingAidCompatibility
rating for your phone is maintained, secondary
transmitterssuchasBluetoothandWLAN
components must be disabled during a call.
