1. Quick Start
Congratulations for choosing this Nokia phone! This chapter describes how to make your
first call and gives a hint on the wealth of features that the phone offers.
Making Your First Call
1With the battery removed, insert the
SIM card (for details, see page 12).
2Install and charge the battery (see
page 13).
3Switch on your phone by pressing and
holding (see page 14).
• If the phone asks for the PIN code,
key it in and press OK.
• To change the language of the dis-
play texts, see ”Language (Menu 4-
4-1)” on page 44.
4Wait until the operator name appears
on the display.
5Key in the area code and phone number
and press (see also page 16).
6After the conversation, end the call by
pressing .

features. To mention but a few:
Adjusting phone tones:
Profiles
You can set the phone tones to function in
the desired way in different situations and
environments by simply selecting a proper
‘profile’. See page 40 for details.
A quick way to select a profile is as fol-
lows:
1Press the power key ( ) quickly when
the display is clear.
2Reach the desired profile (e.g. Silent
to turn off all the phone tones) with
or (or press quickly).
3Press OK (or press and hold ).
Sending SMS messages:
Setting groups (‘Sets’)
You can send a text message e.g. as a fax
by selecting the desired collection of set-
tings (‘set’) in which you have predefined
the proper settings for fax transmissions.

Caller groups
You can set the phone to ring using the
desired ringing tone when you receive a
call from a particular phone number. See
page 23 for details.
