8.5 Using Wireless Modem
Wireless Modem offers another way to set your device as a USB modem so that you
can connect your personal computer or notebook to the Internet.
Note The Windows Mobile Device Center or ActiveSync connection is automatically
disabled when you activate Wireless Modem.
Setting up your device as a USB modem
Tap Start > Settings > Connections > Wireless Modem.
2. Connect the device to your computer using the USB sync cable, then tap
Menu > Start.
3. On your computer, a Found New Hardware dialog box appears on screen.
Click Cancel then place the Getting Started Disc in the CD/DVD-ROM drive of
your computer.
4. Right-click My Computer on your PC, select Properties, then tap
Hardware tab > Device Manager.
5. On Other Devices, right-click Generic Serial, and then click Update Driver.
An Update Hardware Wizard dialog box appears.
6. When prompted to connect to Windows Update to search for software, select
No, not this time, then click Next.
7. Select Install from a list or specific location, and then click Next.
8. Select Don’t search. I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.
9. Select Modems on the list, and then tap Next.
10. Click Have Disk > Browse, and then point to the CD/DVD-ROM drive to
search for the USB modem driver.
11. The HTC USB Modem is displayed. Select this modem driver and then click
Next.
12. Click Yes when the Update Driver Warning message appears.
