Section 3: Entering Text
This section describes how to select the a text input method
when entering characters into your phone. This section also
describes the predictive text entry system that reduces the
amount of key strokes associated with entering text.
Your phone comes equipped with an orientation detector that can
tell if the phone is being held in an upright (portrait) or sideways
(landscape) orientation. This is useful when entering text.
This phone also offers the convenience of a four-row QWERTY
keyboard with dedicated Android keys.
Your phone not only provides several on-screen keypad text entry
options, but also provides handwriting recognition to make the
task of text entry that much easier.
Virtual QWERTY Keyboard
Your device uses a virtual QWERTY keyboard for text entry. Use
the keyboard to enter letters, punctuation, numbers, and other
characters into text entry fields or applications. Access the
keyboard by touching any text entry field.
The virtual QWERTY keyboard displays at the bottom of the
screen. By default, when you rotate the device, the screen
orientation updates to display the keyboard at the bottom of the
screen.
Text Input Methods
There are two text on-screen input methods available:

Swype
:
Swype is a new text input method that allows you to enter
words by gliding your finger over the virtual QWERTY keyboard, lifting
your finger between words. You can also enable Word prediction,
which matches your key touches to common words

Android keyboard (default)
: An on-screen QWERTY keypad that
can be used in both portrait and landscape orientation.
When the phone is open, the screen display is landscape only
and the QWERTY keyboard must be used. For more information,
refer to “Using the QWERTY Keyboard” on page 48.
