Basic Rate Interface (BRI)
An ISDN interface that consists of two 64-Kbps B-channels and one 16-Kbps D-channel. Thus, a
Basic Rate Interface user can have up to 128 Kbps service. Contrast with Primary Rate Interface
(PRI).
BRI
See Basic Rate Interface (BRI).
broadcast
A communication from a single sender sending data to all receivers at the same time.
Cells Dropped
A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the percentage of dropped asynchronous transfer
mode (ATM) cells.
CIM
See Common Information Model (CIM).
CIR
See committed information rate (CIR).
Class of Service (CoS)
A way of managing traffic in a network by grouping similar types of traffic together (for
example, e-mail, streaming video, voice, and large document file transfers) and treating each
type as a class with its own level of service priority.
Collisions
A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the detected collisions for Ethernet interfaces on a
LAN. A collision occurs when more than one device sends a packet simultaneously. The
network detects the collision and discards the packets involved. Each packet must be sent again
by its source device.
committed information rate (CIR)
The upper limit of the transmission rate for normal transmission conditions in Frame Relay
technology. Contrast with excess information rate (EIR).
Common Information Model (CIM)
A computer-industry standard promoted by the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF)
for describing overall management information in a network or enterprise environment. CIM
defines the details for integration with other management models and provides the actual
model descriptions.
Communication Time
A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the cumulative communication time in hours for
Cisco ISDN and Motorola voice interfaces.
