Measuring Response Time
A peer consists of a pair of devices, a source and a destination, with which you
measure response times for exchanges between the two devices. These exchanges can
be application response times (ARTs) or dialog scripts executed by a PATROL End-
to-End Response Timer robot. Probes collect these measurements. You can create
peers on RMON2 probes that support the ART MIB or on Cisco routers that have
SAA.
You can create several peers on the same device. Peers of different types (DNS, echo,
and so forth) appear in the network tree as device components, like interfaces. The
indicators provided by the peers can be used in the global network reports
(Exceptions and Points to Watch), as well as in the Trend reports.
