A PATROL DashBoard indicator that reports the percentage of packets dropped on devices and
interfaces because of insufficient buffer memory.
E1 channel
A European digital transmission channel (a leased line) that carries data at a rate of 2.048 Mbps
on as many as 32 64-Kbps channels.
EGP
See Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP).
EIR
See excess information rate (EIR).
Enable Polling
The feature that activates the collection of data on a domain, a device, an interface, a DLCI, a VP,
a VC, or a protocol. It can be modified in the property pages of the corresponding device.
excess information rate (EIR)
The upper limit of the transmission rate for transmission of excess data (beyond what is normal)
in Frame Relay technology.
export
An external copy of PATROL DashBoard recorded data into an external database compliant
with a CIM model and to be reread by an other application, such as PATROL Service Reporting
for Networks (PSRfN).
eXtensible Markup Language (XML)
A standard markup language facilitate the sharing of structured text and information across the
Internet; a metalanguage written in SGML that allows you to design a markup language, used
to allow for the easy interchange of documents on the World Wide Web.
Exterior Gateway Protocol (EGP)
A protocol for exchanging routing information between two neighbor gateway hosts (each with
its own router) in a network of autonomous systems. EGP is commonly used between hosts on
the Internet to exchange routing table information.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
A protocol for exchanging files between computers on the Internet; an application protocol that
uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files from
their creator to the computer that acts as their server and to download programs and other files
to your computer from other servers. It is the file transfer upper layer of the TCP/IP stack.
generic discovery
A type of discovery that detects and identifies the devices of a local network. Contrast with
router discovery.
