Managing Devices
86 PATROL DashBoard User Guide
3 In Device Name, enter the device name or its IP address.
4 In Community Name, enter the read community name.
5 In Label, enter the name that you want displayed in the navigation tree for this
device and click
Create Device.
6 (optional) If the field requesting the device’s memory capacity is displayed, enter
the correct value to ensure pertinent results.
PATROL DashBoard explores the device to discover its interfaces. Then, the device
is displayed as a selected object in the navigation tree with all of its interfaces. If the
Frame-Relay Add-on is present and if the device satisfies RFC 1315, then the DLCIs
are automatically added to the appropriate interfaces.
The length of this operation depends on the amount of traffic on the network and
the latency time. It can take several minutes.
Finding an Object in the Network Tree
You can locate an object in the Network tree, even if you do not know which domain it
is in or at what level it is located. The
Search feature can locate the object if you know
part of the name or IP address.
NOTE
If the device creation fails and if the message SNMP agent doesn't respond is
displayed, ensure that the following information is correct for the device:
■ the host name or the device IP address
■ the read community name
If this does not solve the problem, review the PATROL DashBoard Release Notes to
see if they contain more information about possible device configurations that
prevent you from accessing the device from the computer on which PATROL
DashBoard is installed.
