Internet Protocol Security (IPsec)
A framework for a set of protocols for security at the network or packet-processing layer of
network communication. Earlier security approaches inserted security at the application layer
of the communications model. IPsec is said to be especially useful for implementing virtual
private networks (VPNs) and for remote user access through dialup connection to private
networks.
Internetwork Packet Exchange (IPX)
A networking protocol used by the Novell NetWare operating systems. Like UDP/IP, IPX is a
datagram protocol used for connectionless communications.
Internetworking Operating System (IOS)
The operating system of Cisco devices.

ISDN report
A PATROL DashBoard report on the Integrated Services Data Networks communication time.
Java
The main programming language used to develop PATROL DashBoard, providing consistent
availability of the product under several operating systems, such as Windows and Unix.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE)
A part of the Java Development Kit (JDK), a set of programming tools for developing Java
applications. The Java Runtime Environment provides the minimum requirements for
executing a Java application; it consists of the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), core classes, and
supporting files.
Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
An OS-independent, emulated target computer (a software program) that executes Java byte
code, which is produced by a Java compiler or other languages that produce the code.
jitter
In voice over IP (VoIP), the variation in the time between packets arriving, caused by network
congestion, timing drift, or route changes. A jitter buffer can be used to handle jitter.
