Upgrading PATROL DashBoard from an Earlier Version
Chapter 2 Installing PATROL DashBoard 39
15 (Unix only) After you exit the installation utility, restart the PATROL DashBoard
server (see “Starting the PATROL DashBoard Server” on page 54).
Upgrading PATROL DashBoard from an Earlier
Version
Installing the new version of PATROL DashBoard does not cause you to lose your
existing data. All of your data is retained and is compatible with the new version.
However, an existing setup that includes data export to PATROL Service Reporting
for Networks requires that you perform some additional setup on PATROL Service
Reporting for Networks before you upgrade your PATROL DashBoard.
Before You Begin
If you have PATROL DashBoard data stored on the computer, back up the data.
If you have your existing PATROL DashBoard set up to export data to PATROL
Service Reporting for Networks, you must run a script on PATROL Service
Reporting for Networks before you upgrade to the new version. See the PATROL
DashBoard Release Notes for more information.
Ensure that the PATROL DashBoard server is stopped. For instructions, see
“Stopping the PATROL DashBoard Server” on page 57.
Close all applications and disable any antivirus programs as well as any screen
savers that may be running. This is necessary to free memory to facilitate the
installation, and to avoid conflicts between the installation and other programs.
If you are reinstalling in a Unix environment, this installation requires an X11
environment. The PATROL DashBoard setup GUI is compliant with the X11
standard. If the X11 environment is available on the PATROL DashBoard server
computer, you can install from that computer. Otherwise, you must install from a
remote computer that has the X11 environment. If you are installing from a remote
computer, you must create a display environment variable by entering the
export
DISPLAY=
name:0 command from a Unix console, where name is the name of the
remote computer. If you do not do this, the installation of PATROL DashBoard will
fail.
WARNING
On Windows, you must close the Services window after stopping the PATROL
DashBoard service. If you leave the Services window open, the reinstallation of
PATROL DashBoard may deadlock.
