Camera and Video 133
n It is best to take photos in a well-lit environment. If the subject is moving or if you're taking a
picture in a dark environment, you can manually increase the ISO in Camera settings. Keep in
mind that the higher the ISO, the less detail is captured and noise may appear in the photo.
n You can manually adjust the sharpness of a photo by editing in the Gallery app. You can also set
the sharpness before taking a photo in the Camera settings. Generally, it is better to sharpen a
blurry image rather than to reduce the sharpness in an image.
n Use Macro scene if you want to highlight the detail of an object instead of shooting in Normal
scene and then cropping.
Take Well-lit Photos
n Your phone automatically adjusts the focus and exposure. If the image appears underexposed
(the image appears dark on the viewfinder), touch a part of the image that is in shadow.
Conversely, touch a well-lit object in the image if the image seems to be overexposed. Focus on
an object with a neutral tone for a balanced exposure. Note that touching on another object may
shift the focus from your subject.
n The large sensors of your phone lets you take clear photos in low light situations. If the image is
still too dark, switch to Night mode, but use a tripod or place your phone on a level surface.
n If there are parts of the image that are in shadows and others are in highlights, use HDR mode to
capture three shots of different exposures and combine them into one shot. Keep your phone
steady or place it on a level surface when using HDR.
n When taking a panorama shot, consider the whole scene and focus on an object that has a
neutral tone to help keep the exposure balanced in the composite image.
n If your subject is lit from the back, use Backlight scene to highlight the foreground and keep
some details of the background.
Other Tips
n In Camera settings, touch Grid to help frame the subject better or improve the composition.
n If the subject has a lot of white (for example, food on a plate), adjust the white balance in Camera
settings. Choose the option that shows the natural color of the subject.
n In Camera settings, you can touch Image adjustments and adjust the exposure, contrast, and
others before taking the photo.
n After capturing the photo, you can continue to edit the contrast, brightness, and others in the
Gallery app. You can even straighten a slightly skewed photo by touching Edit > Tools >
Straighten.
